The story begins at Stardate 64333.4 (2387 A.D. I think).

Which appears to be several years after Star Trek: Nemesis.

Going by the modern Trek series Stardate system.

That is the first 2 digits start from TNG season 1 with 41*** (2364), the 4 standing for the 24th Century.

And the 1 for the 1st season, so the last episode of TNG was 47988 (2370).

But it carried over to later series and films, DS9s last season was 52*** (2375).

And Star Trek Nemesis was 56*** (2379), 16 years after TNG began.

Making Countdown a whole 23 years after the start of TNG, and 8 years after Nemesis.

But It could be wrong.

So the story starts with Nero, a Romulan captain of a mining ship on a routine mission.

But a nearby dying star sends out a deadly flare, and they have to scarper asap.

Now Nero, if you know a bit about the upcoming film, is the bad guy from the future.

Who is up to no good in Kirks time, not sure exactly what though.

But I know he blows up a starship, killing Kirk’s father.

Thereby changing the timeline and altering events that happen thereafter (including the events in this comic?).

Which is how the film can claim to be in keeping with the Trek canon, and also change stuff.
